What you see – Noritake has its origins in the year 1904. A former diplomat called Baron Morimura started a small Bone China manufacturing factory in Noritake, a village in Japan. A century’s over since then but the charm of this brand continues.
Located neatly above Mint and C3 in Chennai, this display showroom has enough showstoppers that crowd the room and vie for your attention. Displayed in a very realistic manner, on neat traditional wooden tables of all shapes and sizes, the store has its sets and collectors’ items in perfect order. The showroom itself is not large, surrounded as it is by storage areas on all sides.
What you get - Chennai’s Noritake showroom was started in 2007. This world famous brand, touted as one of the top three in the world, has both porcelain as well as bone China wares. The difference between the two is that the latter has animal bone ash and clay used in its making.
Each piece is hand painted carefully. Their specialty is the gold and platinum rimmed cups and plates that are created after melting the metal at temperatures as high as 1600 degrees Celsius. These come from Sri Lanka and Japan.
Their must-buy is 250 ml Majestic Mugs that are even available in single pieces worth Rs. 485 or so. This mug too comes with a gold rim and gold streak on the handle that never fades even after several washes.
They even have painted vases that come at Rs.1,500 for a pair. Their other wares are also priced up to Rs. one lakh.
Our verdict - The delicate filigree work on the rims of the plates make you want to own one. Products are exquisite and exclusively priced too. Worth an investment to impress guests at home.
